KIA June 16, 2005 serving as combatant in Operation Iraqi Freedom
Marine Lance Corporal Erik Heldt, 26, of Hermann, Missouri
Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA; attached to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward)
Killed June 16 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while he was conducting combat operations neaer Ramadi, Iraq. Also killed was Captain John W. Maloney

We honor and thank U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Erik Heldt for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.
Erik inspires us with this recollection from his brother, Matt Heldt:
“He thought protecting our way of life was definitely the right thing to do. He paid the ultimate price for us to go to church on Sunday morning or to go grocery shopping after work.”
