Fallen Patriot Commemoration
This Interactive American Flag is dedicated to:
U.S. Marine Lance Corporal
​Ryan J. Kovacicek of Washington, PA

Lance Corporal Kovacicek, 22, served as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)
with 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, based in Moundsville, WV
Killed in action on July 10, 2005 by enemy indirect fire while conducting combat operations in Hit, Iraq.

2001 Graduate of Bishop Canevin HS in Pittsburgh (after attending JFK Catholic HS in Washington, PA)
Studied criminology and played hockey at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (3rd year)
Passionate about hockey, golf, skiing, and making folks laugh
Survived by his mother, father (Marine Vietnam Vet), and sister

​We honor and thank U.S. Marine LCpl Kovacicek for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.

Edward J. Sweeney Jr.

Vietnam Veteran of Boston, Massachusetts
20 year Army career (1967-1987) in Aviation and Corps of Engineers
Awarded Silver Star, Bronze Star, and numerous Air Medals while serving as scout helicopter pilot ( shot down 3 times ;) in Vietnam
Died December 8, 2008, age 62, of a Vietnam War related illness 
Survived by wife, Ellen Sweeney, two children and three grandchildren
We honor and thank U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Ed Sweeney Jr. for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.

​Ed Sweeney Jr. inspires us with his leadership - how he looked out for the welfare of his men:
Chief Warrant Officer Frank Glenn, a fellow Vietnam War scout helicopter pilot of Platoon Leader Ed Sweeney, repeated Captain Sweeney's directive to his 9 scout pilots, "Don't be a cowboy, don't take any unnecessary risks, no hot-dogging, and don't get your crew killed.  Your job is to return to base everyday."
