Fallen Patriot Commemoration
This Interactive American Flag is dedicated to:
U.S. Marine Corps Captain
​Matthew W. Bancroft of Redding, CA
(USNA 1994 graduate)

Capt. Matthew Bancroft, 29, served as part of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)
with Marine Aerial Transport Refueler Squadron 352 from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA
Killed, along with 6 of Marines, January 9, 2002 when his KC-130/R (refueling tanker) crashed in Pakistan

We honor and thank U.S. Army Captain Bancroft for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.
[ Listed as 1st USNA graduate killed in GWOT (OEF) combat zone ]

1994 Graduated from US Naval Academy with BS in Economics
Commissioned as US Marine Corps Officer and selected for Flight School in 1994
Pinned on Naval Aviator wings of gold in 1996 at Corpus Christi, TX
Deployments, prior to OEF, to Jordan, Kenya, Egypt, and Kuwait
Survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, and their three children, Sean, Christian, and Bailey Madison

Killed on March 27, 2009 by small arms fire from an inside-traitor / soldier of the Afghan National Army 
Survived by her husband, Lt. Cmdr. Chong “Jay” Choe, and their 3-year-old daughter

We honor and thank U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Ed Sweeney Jr. for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.

​Ed Sweeney Jr. inspires us with his leadership - how he looked out for the welfare of his men:
Chief Warrant Officer Frank Glenn, a fellow Vietnam War scout helicopter pilot of Platoon Leader Ed Sweeney, repeated Captain Sweeney's directive to his 9 scout pilots, "Don't be a cowboy, don't take any unnecessary risks, no hot-dogging, and don't get your crew killed.  Your job is to return to base everyday."
