iHonor American Flag : Visitor Comments for Capt. Matthew Bancroft ... posted here from newest to oldest ...
To Patriots Equipment Staff (Brenden Murphy & Co.) and Players (namely Joe Cardona) - Thanks for honoring Marine Captain Bancroft by hanging his iHonor Flag within the equipment / locker room. I hope the Flag, and ,more importantly, Matt's informative and inspiring story of service to country, motivates everyone to keep "doing your job" on and off the field. You might be asking why I chose to commemorate a Marine from California at your facility? I selected Capt. Bancroft because he was a Naval Academy graduate, like your teammate, Joe Cardona, and was the first USNA graduate to be killed in the Global War on Terror (GWOT). He was also the first Marine (along with 6 others aboard the KC-130) to die in this 18-year long war - which is significant to me, a fellow U.S. Marine (1991-1996). And, lastly, because I want Captain Bancroft's story and legacy to be known, along with the nearly 7,000 other GWOT Fallen, by students at his HS alma mater and across our great country; hopefully, thereby, inspiring some students to step out of their comfort zone, to put others before themselves, and to keep our country free and safe like Captain Bancroft did. - from Sean on 9/3/19
